Giving Tuesday 2023: The International Day of Generosity

After Black Friday and Cyber Monday, it's Giving Tuesday! Canadians donated nearly $44 million in one day—can you believe it? It's a great opportunity to celebrate and encourage others to do good!

Giving Tuesday: What is it?

The movement, now active in 75 countries, comes just after the famous days that push us to overconsume. Created in 2012, Giving Tuesday is the global day dedicated to giving back!

In Canada, it has been celebrated since 2012 and is supported by CanadaDon.org with the support of the Rideau Hall Foundation. Across the country, 47 local community movements were supported and $43.6 million was raised online in 24 hours across all participating platforms. More than 270 kg of food was also donated to people in need!

While the solidarity movement lasts only one day, as its name suggests, many campaigns have been underway for several weeks now and will continue through December. #GivingEveryTuesday has also been launched, as a weekly reminder to show kindness throughout the year.

Who can participate?

It's free, and anyone can participate and help others in any way they can. It's a collective effort that encourages charities, small businesses, large corporations, and families to do good together.

What action can I take for Giving Tuesday?

There are no small actions, giving time and volunteering like giving up your seat on the bus, it is above all a reason to spread positivity and encourage support for our communities.

  • Take part in a community movement Giving Tuesday
  • Help a neighbor, hold the door, or make a stranger smile
  • Write a message of solidarity to everyone
  • Participate in a fundraiser or make a charitable donation to a cause close to your heart by searching the official website GivingTuesday.ca
  • Donate food to food banks that regularly distribute to families in need
  • Donate essential staple foods to a family in need...

In addition to boosting your creativity, you can see it as a moment to spend with your loved ones. Afterward, you can also tell your giving story, share your favorite message, and briefly explain what you're doing to help our community. There are so many opportunities to give!

Finally, we'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support. If you receive the Anti-Waste Basket, you'll contribute to our weekly donations. Thanks to you, we can help food relief organizations that offer family food baskets or solidarity meals. It's time to strengthen ties, celebrate, and give back!
